Fred Novick Installed as 2021-22 President

 
Fred Novick was installed as the 2021-22 president of the Marana-Dove Mountain Rotary Club at a dinner event on Thursday, July 8, at The Highlands. District Governor Nominee Marc Snow administered the oath of office to Fred, and he also inducted the 2021-22 treasurer, Jeff Penfil, and secretary, Teree Bergman. Fred shared with the club his priorities for the new Rotary year:
 
  • Membership:  Growth by 40+ percent w/ participating members
  • Fundraising for Club Projects:  $21,200 raised for Charitable Fund (quarterly events)
  • Community Relationships:  Beehive, Imago dei Middle School, Roadrunner Elementary School
  • Peacebuilder:  Projects at Tangerine Sky Park, Mountain View High School
  • Scholarships:  Academic, Technical/Vocational, TRVFA
  • Service Projects:   At least two per quarter
  • Social Events:   At least two per quarter
The club thanked Teree Bergman for her service as president for 2020-21, and she shared some thoughts about leading the club during the Zoom year. She thanked the members of the board of directors: president-elect, Fred Novick; treasurer, Jeff Penfil; secretary, Bill Christiansen; Rotary Foundation chair, Joe Hentges; membership chair, Aleta Wiener; service projects chair, Ralph Harding. Despite the limitations of the pandemic, the club was able to complete several service projects and engage in fund-raising events. Here is a summary of the year's activities:
 
  • Imago Dei Middle School THREAD project, supporting immigrant families
  • Table donated to Roadrunner Elementary Schools outside lunch area, supporting low-income Marana families
  • PACC bagging dog & cat food for needy pet owners, in collaboration with Tucson Sunrisers
  • Gaslight Music Hall Parking Lot Benefit Concert, supporting  Community Food Bank
  • “Handbags for Hope,” donating 22 handbags & basic needs items to Eagles Wings of Grace
  • Support MVHS Interact Club Sock Drive, donated to Casa de los Ninos & Youth on Their Own
  • Became a Peacebuilder Club and installed Peace Pole at Tangerine Sky Park
  • Bench purchased for installation nearby Peace Pole at Tangerine Sky Park
  • 1st Club Pay-It-Forward raffle to support youth & families
  • Jim Click raffle fundraiser
  • Support of Rotary D5500 100-mile challenge
  • Sponsored one Mountain View High School RYLA student
  • Sponsored 11 scholarships ($ 22k) for the working poor through TRVFA
  • Awarded 2 academic scholarships to graduating local HS seniors (MVHS, Marana HS)
  • Awarded one Rotary D5500 grant, funds used for Imago Dei Middle School THREAD project 
  • Club participation in Arizona / Mexico Friendship Conference & Projects Fair
  • Club participation in Rotary D5500 Peacebuilder Conference
  • Club participation in the ADL Walk Against Hate
  • Club bylaws updated to comply with RI policy
  • Club website updated to be comprehensive & Rotary brand-compliant
  • Club newsletter restarted
  • Published 8 local media news stories highlighting DM Rotary Club accomplishments
  • Excellent speakers arranged throughout the year for ZOOM Regular Club meetings
  • Earned the Rotary Citation
