DM Rotary Club Service Projects
The following is a sampling of recent club service projects over the last few years:
El Tour de Tucson Ride to End Polio: DM Rotarians, family members, & neighbors have supported this initiative over the years with indoor riders, outdoor riders on the 63-mile route, support of aid & snack stations for the riders, rider pre-registration support, and donations having a Gates Foundation 2:1 match.
Community Food Bank HungerWalk: DM Rotarians have walked at Tangerine Sky Park for several years and have raised significant funds for the Community Food Bank.
Community Food Bank Emergency Food Packing & Distribution: DM Rotarians packed & distributed food to the needy at the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
Veterans Serving Veterans Meal Serving: DM Rotarians have served meals to homeless veterans for many years, in collaboration with Tucson Veterans Serving Veterans.
Feed My Starving Children Meal Packing: Club member have packed meals for Feed My Starving Children annually. These meals are shipped to third-world countries where many are challenged to find enough to eat daily.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing: DM Rotarians have raised funds for the Salvation Army from bell ringing and online donations over the holidays for many years, at the local Fry’s at Tangerine and Thornydale Roads.
Wreaths Across America: DM Rotarians participated in laying wreaths at the Marana Veterans Memorial Cemetery for several years.
Little Free Libraries: The DM Rotary Club has constructed and donated Little Free Libraries and books to numerous local schools.
DM Rotary Hosting of Marana Chamber Breakfast Meeting: Numerous Club members attended, and the club hosted Marana Chamber Breakfast meetings periodically, to give the club increased visibility among community business leaders.
Bag Stuffing for Zone Institute: Club members stuffed bags to support a Zone Institute meeting and enjoyed breakfast together after that hard work.
Peace Pole, Bench & Landscaping at Tangerine Sky Park: DM Rotarians and Marana Parks & Recreation installed a Peace Pole, bench, and landscaping at Tangerine Sky Park, as part a Peacebuilder initiative. “Peace Poles” are internationally recognized symbols that send messages for peace, in our world full of conflict. There are more than 250,000 Peace Poles in every country of the world, dedicated as monuments for peace.
Languages: English, Spanish, Tohono O'odham Nation language, Mandarin, & Hebrew.
Tohono O'odham language was selected in reference to the original native inhabitants of the Sonoran Desert area.
Roadrunner Elementary School Table Donation & Reading to Students: DM Rotarians visited Roadrunner Elementary School and donated a table for outdoor eating, to assist the school & students during the pandemic. In addition, club members have read to students on an ongoing basis.
Handbags of Hope: DM Rotarians prepared & delivered 22 handbags with basic needs items to Eagles Wings of Grace, a non-profit organization that helps local disadvantaged women after life-altering situations such as addiction, abuse, and incarceration.
Friends of Pima Animal Care Center: DM Rotarians collaborated with the Tucson Sunrise Rotary Club, by participating in their "Friends of Pima Animal Care Center" project bagging dog & cat food as well as cat litter to help needy pet owners.
Imago Dei Middle School THREAD Project: Our club assisted Imago Dei Middle School, a private, tuition-free Grade 5-8 downtown Tucson middle school exclusively serving low-income families. Dove Mountain Rotarians visited the school and presented school officials with a check to cover the cost of materials for sewing 10,000 masks for the THREAD (Together for Hope, Resiliency, Empowerment, And Development) project. The donated funds were from the Dove Mountain Rotary Charitable Fund and a matching grant from District 5500.
Beehive Senior Care Home Support: Dove Mountain Rotary supported the Beehive Senior Care Center. Club members had a Valentine's Day party for the residents. At the beginning of the pandemic, club members sent notes and cards to the residents. Club members also made Easter cards for each resident.
Marana Food Bank Benches: DM Rotary club members constructed benches placed at the entrance of the Marana Food Bank, so that patrons would have a place to sit when using public transportation caused them to arrive before the Food Banks daily opening time.
Shelter Box Donations: Over the years, DM Rotarians have donated several Shelter Box’s to provide families emergency disaster relief from a natural disaster or conflict. There are hundreds of Millions of people around the world that have been displaced by natural disasters and world conflict.
Volunteering at Habitat for Humanity: A group of Dove Mountain Rotarians and family members donned hard hats and volunteered at Habitat for Humanity. They worked on landscaping, roof trusses, and general construction.
